Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Written to be read, not skimmed past.

Last updated 31 October 2026

The short version

  • We collect what we need to run your account, your listings and your messages.
  • Listings are public, including the contact details shown on them.
  • We never sell your data. We use Google Analytics to see how the site is used.
  • You can ask for a copy of your data or have your account deleted at any time.

1.About this policy

This policy explains how DisplayHouse (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use the DisplayHouse website. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

By using DisplayHouse, you acknowledge that your information will be handled as described here.

2.Information we collect

Account details. Your name and email address, and a password if you register with email. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash, never in readable form. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google.

Contact details you choose to add, such as a phone number.

Listings. Everything you put in a listing: property address and map location, photos, description, price, features and status.

Messages and activity. Messages you send and receive through DisplayHouse, the properties you save as favourites, and when your listings and messages were created or read.

Technical information. Your IP address and basic request details, used briefly to keep the service secure and to limit abuse such as repeated sign-in attempts. We store these limits under a scrambled (hashed) key that expires automatically.

Usage information. Which pages you visit, how you arrived (for example from a search engine), and your device, browser and approximate location (city level), collected through Google Analytics. See “Cookies and analytics” below.

3.What other people can see

Listings are public. Anyone visiting DisplayHouse, signed in or not, can see a listing's address, map location, photos, description and price.

Your name, email address and phone number (if you add one) are shown on your listings so buyers and renters can contact you. When you message someone, they see your name and profile photo. Please only include details in a listing that you are comfortable making public.

4.How we use your information

  • to create and run your account and sign you in;
  • to publish your listings and show them in search and on the map;
  • to deliver messages between buyers, renters, owners and agents;
  • to send account emails, such as email verification and password resets;
  • to prevent fraud, spam and abuse, and to keep the service secure;
  • to understand how people use DisplayHouse, so we can improve it and measure our marketing;
  • to answer your questions and handle reports; and
  • to meet our legal obligations.

5.Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us run DisplayHouse, and only what they need:

  • Google, for “Sign in with Google”, maps and address lookup. When a map or address search loads, your browser contacts Google directly.
  • Google Analytics, to measure visits and how the site is used.
  • Resend, to deliver account emails.
  • Cloudflare, to store and deliver listing photos.
  • Our website hosting and database providers.

We may also disclose information where the law requires or authorises it, for example to a court or law enforcement agency, or to protect people from serious harm or fraud.

6.Overseas storage

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and Singapore. We choose providers with strong security practices and take reasonable steps to make sure they handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

7.Cookies and analytics

We use an essential cookie to keep you signed in. We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits and tell new visitors from returning ones. Google processes this information under its own privacy policy, and may store it outside Australia. Google may also set cookies when its maps load.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect how DisplayHouse works.

8.How we protect it

We encrypt connections to DisplayHouse, hash passwords, limit who can access our systems, and throttle repeated attempts to sign in or post. No online service can be perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us straight away if you think your account has been compromised.

9.How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open and for as long as we need it for the purposes above or to meet legal obligations. When you delete a listing, its details and photos are removed from the site, along with conversations about it. Abuse-prevention records expire automatically. When we no longer need information, we delete or de-identify it.

10.Access, correction and deletion

You can update your listings at any time from your dashboard. To get a copy of the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account, email hello@displayhouse.example from the address on your account. We'll respond within 30 days.

11.Questions and complaints

If you have a question or concern about privacy, contact us at hello@displayhouse.example. We'll look into it and reply within 30 days.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

12.Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as DisplayHouse changes. We'll post the new version here with a new “last updated” date, and let you know by email or on the site if the changes are significant.
